Many of Portland's main attractions are well within walking distance of The Chadwick Bed & Breakfast, including Haddlock Field, home of the Portland Sea Dogs (The Boston Red Sox AA affiliate), The Cumberland County Civic Center, and Merrill Auditorium, home of The Portland Symphony, both offering fabulous schedules for music and the performing arts. Not to mention, other great venues like The Portland Pirates, The Maine Red Claws, Portland Stage Company, and the newly renovated State Theatre!

Visitors also come to Portland to experience some of the wonderful cuisine offered in 300+ restaurants scattered throughout the city. Did you know, Portland has more restaurants per capita than any other city in the United States?  And, in 2009 was named America's Foodiest Small Town by Bon Appetit Magazine? It's all true!!

Much of Portland’s shopping is close at hand in the Old Port and the Arts Districts.

Portland's Old Port is one of the most successful revitalized warehouse districts in the country.  Seamlessly connected to the waterfront, the Old Port is a working waterfront and a chic shopping, dining, and entertainment district.  Enjoy a walk on one of the many wharfs, stroll down the cobble stone streets, enjoy boutique shopping by day, and vibrant nightlife unparallel to any other New England city.

Uptown, a few blocks from the waterfront, is Portland’s secret treasure The Arts District.  With Congress Street as its spine, this once traditional shopping street has turned into a mecca of art galleries, antique shops, and artist studios.

If your reservation includes the first Friday of the month, don’t miss the First Friday Art Walk!  Artists exhibit their work in backs of roving trucks, at street performances, in artist’s studios, and traditional galleries.  This exciting monthly event offers you a diverse night of formal and spontaneous experiences.  As an added bonus, every Friday night the Portland Museum of Art offers free admission after 5pm.

Outside of the city, Maine offers great shopping and sightseeing in Freeport, Wiscasset, Rockland, Camden, Boothbay Harbor, and Bethel.  Fishing, boating, camping, and hiking are a short drive away in the beautiful Lakes Region and the Western Foothills.  Leaf peeping in the autumn when the landscape is colored with the warm glow of red, orange, and yellow is always stunning for locals and visitors alike.  Skiing, snowboarding, and snowmobiling are not too far from The Chadwick Bed & Breakfast in the winter months.

All this, plus the White Mountains of New Hampshire and the historic city of Boston are a stones-throw away.  With all that the region has to offer, you might be calling us to extend your reservation!
